These terms cover your use of GoldScout™ (the “Service”), a gold prospecting map and learning app operated by GoldScout™ (“we”, “us”). By using the Service or starting a subscription, you agree to these terms.
1. What the Service is
GoldScout™ shows mine and prospect locations from the U.S. Geological Survey’s Mineral Resources Data System (MRDS) on third-party topographic, road and satellite maps. It also includes simulated practice terrain, a sample log, route measuring, weather links and a prospecting guide. The practice terrain is generated for learning. It is not a map of any real place.
2. Subscriptions and free trial
- GoldScout™ Pro is offered at $9.99 per month or $59.99 per year (U.S. dollars, plus any applicable tax).
- New subscribers get a 6-day free trial. You enter a payment method when you start the trial. You will not be charged during the trial.
- Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your subscription starts automatically and your payment method is charged the plan price at the end of the trial, and then at the start of each monthly or yearly billing period until you cancel.
- You can cancel anytime. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current trial or billing period. See our refund and cancellation policy.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- We may change prices with at least 30 days’ notice by email before the change applies to your next renewal.
3. Data accuracy
Mine data comes from the USGS MRDS, a historical database that USGS no longer updates. Locations can be approximate or wrong, and a record does not mean gold is still present. Map layers come from third parties (such as USGS, Esri, OpenTopoMap, OpenStreetMap, EOX and, where enabled, Google) and may be out of date or unavailable. The Service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent allowed by law.
4. Land access and the law
A site shown in the Service is not permission to enter, dig or collect. Many sites are on private land, active mining claims, or public land that is closed to prospecting. You are responsible for confirming land status and ownership, getting permission, and following all laws, permits and rules where you prospect.
5. Safety
Prospecting can be dangerous. Never enter mine shafts, adits or old workings. Watch for flash floods, cold water, heat, steep ground and wildlife. Weather links are provided for convenience and may not reflect current conditions. You use the Service and go into the field at your own risk.
6. Acceptable use
Don’t copy, resell or redistribute the Service, attempt to disrupt it, or use it to trespass or break the law. We may suspend access for misuse.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for injury, loss or legal consequences arising from prospecting activities. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts located in North Carolina, unless the law where you live requires otherwise.
9. Changes
We may update these terms. If changes are significant, we will post a notice in the Service or email subscribers before they take effect.
